Early Daily Peanuts Comic Strip Auctions for $192,000

From Bleeding Cool:

Charles Schulz‘s Peanuts syndicated comic strip began its 17897 strip, 50-year run on October 2, 1950.  Snoopy first appeared just two days later on October 4, 1950.  An earliest-days Peanuts comic strip from November 17, 1950 has just hammered at Heritage Auctions for $192,000 — a record price for a Peanuts daily comic strip.  The November 17 strip is the 40th Peanuts daily to appear and features Snoopy along with another Peanuts character named Shermy.

That same auction saw Batman’s first appearance go for $1½ million.

© North America Syndicate (KFS)

Joseph Nebus’ latest installment of What’s Going On In… is extra long as he summarizes the end of the Jack Elrod rerun and the beginning of Jules Rivera’s Mark Trail. The extra length is due to Joseph’s review of The New Mark Trail.

But there’s more unsettling things. We’ve seen Mark Trail talking to animals … boy, does this Happy Trail Farms stuff worry me … So I offer this to people who’re upset …

From Live For Live Music:

The White Stripes surprised fans with a new animated video for the De Stijl classic, “Apple Blossom”, on Friday.

The new video features animation by celebrated cartoonist Wartella, and employs familiar White Stripes iconography with the inclusion of red and white stripes throughout. The former Village Voice cartoonist uses cardboard cutout and silhouette style animation to tell the story of a woman rescued by love.
