Update:
Sadly the above creators are only part of the comics community that passed on in 2019.
Mike Rhode and the Comics Research Bibliography have posted a list that goes beyond my accounting of newspaper and magazine cartoonists. Mike also includes cartoonists from comic books, animation, and the international stage. Mike’s 2019 list is at his ComicsDC site.

  1. I’ve never heard of Strictly G.I. or that Kinsler did any strip work. It’s not listen in Holtz. Do you have any further information?

  2. Strictly G. I. was a 1946 comic strip for the Fort Dix camp newspaper – First Call(?). The information comes from Steven Ringgenberg’s The Comics Journal obituary :
“Kinstler was drafted in 1945, but World War II was officially over when he was called up for duty in December of that year. He was sent to Fort Dix, New Jersey … He did, however, volunteer to do a comic strip called “Strictly GI” for his camp newspaper…”

They offer up a sample of the comic strip there.

I do not have Jim Vadeboncoeur’s book on Kinstler, so don’t know if that was the original source.

  3. Also died in 2019 but comic strip TV special related: Lee Mendelson, co-creator of the Peanuts animated TV specials.
