In recent comments about the influence of The Simpsons, Elfman caused quite a stir. Speaking with website Joe.ie, Elfman surprised many by saying “Well, from what I’ve heard, it is coming to end.” Elfman went on to qualify his statement, saying “I don’t know for a fact, but I’ve heard that it will be in its last year.” For as much as people complain about the show’s later seasons, the internet seemed sad.

Sure, some people were saying to put the show out of its misery. Still, like an old blanket you just can’t throw away, it feels awesome to know The Simpsons is still on … I don’t think anyone can argue that the new seasons are better than the old ones. But still, Elfman’s comments were a great reminder of how many people really love this show.

As of right now, the show is far from over. Show-runner Al Jean says the comments are “NOT true,” and that the show is currently still chugging along. Fox picked up two more seasons of The Simpsons in February, meaning the program will hit 32. That’s insane to think about; the show debuted in 1989 and it will run through 2022.

I have been so inspired by Matt Groening’s TV show since it debuted on The Tracey Ullman Show way back when. Oh course, back in the day, The Simpsons was under fire for being so controversial… lol… Looking at the early episodes today, after being exposed to Family Guy and South Park, one just scratches their head. What the show was really being defied as at the time was under the definition of “groundbreaking”
I know, people will say that the show has run its course. I, on the other hand, would strongly disagree. I would love to see the show go through an intense makeover to freshen it up. Have the Power Plant shut down. Make Monty Burns the new mayor.Make Homer a stay-at-home-dad. Have Marge go to work and be the bread winner an ad agency where she shines as a creative genius. The ad agency can now introduce a few new, fresh characters and also offer a crazy environment for some original storylines. I am just winging some ideas here….
I hope The Simpsons runs forever and never ceases production.
