Pedro X. Molina Gets Ithica (NY) Asylum Residency

Pedro X. Molina, who was presented with the 2018 Courage in Editorial Cartooning Award from the Cartoonists Rights Network International at last year’s AAEC Convention in Sacramento, and earlier this year was honored as a recipient of a 2019 Maria Moors Cabot Prize for outstanding reporting on the Americas from the Columbia Journalism School, has been selected as the seventh resident artist of Ithaca City of Asylum (ICOA), the group announced.

Pedro X. Molina, an internationally acclaimed political cartoonist who fled his native Nicaragua during a crackdown on journalists and government critics, has been selected as the seventh resident artist of Ithaca City of Asylum (ICOA), the group announced.

In August 2019 he began a new position as a visiting international scholar in the Ithaca College Honors Program.

Molina is the first cartoonist to be hosted by ICOA and the first resident from Latin America.

ICOA provides refuge in Ithaca, New York, for writers whose works are suppressed, whose lives are threatened, whose cultures are vanishing, and whose languages are endangered. We also advocate for human rights and freedom of expression. ICOA is part of the International Cities of Refuge Network (ICORN).
