Nick Anderson, Houston Chronicle editorial cartoonist, will receive the Art in Service of the Environment Award from the Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club on Saturday, July 18, 2015 in Addison, TX. This award is given to an individual or group for an outstanding work of art in any medium or discipline in service to the environment.
Anderson is being honored for his innovative presentation of a 3-part series of full-page drawings, “The San Jacinto River in Peril.” These drawings along with the text describe the human cost and the corporate cover-up of the San Jacinto Waste Pits story. “The series heightened public awareness of the damage to people and the environment caused by the waste pits and certainly added to the support for the Harris County Attorney?s actions,” stated Evelyn L. Merts, Conservation Chair of the Lone Star Chapter Sierra Club.
