Terri Libensons Pajama Diaries looks at body image issues for young girls

Yesterday a three-part story-line kicked off in Terri Libenson’s The Pajama Diaries about body issues for young women.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer picked up on the story:

Q. You have two teenage daughters in real life, age 11 and 14. Were they the inspiration for Body Image?

A. I have my own back story. When I was in college I gained the usual freshman 15 pounds. Like a lot of girls I was very self-conscious about my body. I was also a perfectionist. I would compare myself to other girls. After I put on the weight I went on an extreme diet that consisted mainly of coffee, a little yogurt and some oatmeal. It was bad. My stomach hurt all the time and I felt terrible in general.

  1. Never had daughters, but still relate to Pajama Diaries message raising a teenage son. Today’s last panel really portrays the irony of media and body image. Thanks for helping us cope and smile every day, Terri!
