Please support The Kenosha Festival of Cartooning

The awesome Anne Morse Hambrock is gearing up for another fantastic Kenosha Festival of Cartooning this year. If you haven’t heard about the festival or know a lot about it, it’s a small (but growing) festival in Wisconsin that is a three-day love affair of all things comic art. Fans get meet their favorite cartoonists, see original artwork in a gallery, and attend workshops and panel discussions. This year’s festival is September 25th through September 27th. Even if you can’t be there, helping grow this festival is a great service. To that end, Anne has launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise $10,000 to cover expenses. If you have the ability, I encourage you to donate. Also scroll down and watch the video produced by Tom Racine who can explain the festival much better than I can.

Oh, and please follow the festival on Facebook and Twitter and spread the word. This really is a worthwhile effort that deserves support.

Here’s a list of this year’s speakers and presenters:

Jeff Keane of Family Circus, Denis Kitchen of Kitchen Sink Press, Lincoln Peirce of Big Nate, Rick Stromoski of Soup to Nutz, Todd Clark of Lola, Scott Stantis of Prickly City (also staff editorial cartoonist at The Chicago Tribune), Terri Libenson of The Pajama Diaries, Michael Schumacher author of Al Capp: A Life To The Contrary and Will Eisner: A Dreamer’s Life In Comics, and Paul Buhle comic historian and author of Comics In Wisconsin. And panel moderator Tom Racine of Tall Tale Radio.

  1. Ala,

Thanks so much for the shout out! We are gearing up for a great event next September with the usual presentations but also not one but TWO gallery shows!

We have access to some classic originals from the likes of Caniff, Walt Kelly, George Herriman, Frank Frazetta and a bunch more plus the art of the guest speakers and also several prominent cartoonists with ties to Wisconsin – these pieces will be on display at the Kenosha Public Museum.

But we are also lucky to be working with Denis Kitchen on a show of underground comics, work by Denis, and originals by Will Eisner and Al Capp. Denis and Kenosha author Michael Schumacher worked together on the Al Capp bio and Michael has also written a great book about Eisner. Both Michael and Denis will be giving a presentation at a reception for that show which will hang in the University of Wisconsin Parkside Fine Arts Gallery.

We not only need to raise $ to cover the artists expenses but also to truly hang good shows and cover stuff like shipping etc.

There are a lot of great perks below $50 so supporting the festival doesn’t have to break the bank 🙂

  2. Thanks, Bearman! Always a pleasure to help out the lovely and talented Anne. Can’t wait for this thing!

  3. For those cartoonists who would like to take out ads in the official Festival Program Booklet we have just added perks for quarter, half and full page ads. Thanks to Keith Brown (Wages of Sin) for the idea!

Because Indiegogo only lets you post 20 perks at a time we had to pull a couple but we will put them back later in the drive.
