OSU Cartoon Library successfully moved to Sullivant Hall

The world’s largest comic collection on the move.

The largest comic collection in the world has been successfully moved to its new home in the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum. Having just moved to a new home, I can appreciate to a small degree the logistics, coordination, planning and hard work this effort must have been.

Of course, now that it’s all moved it, the fine folks at the library must get ready for the triennial Festival of Cartoon Art – which also coincides with the grand opening of the new museum. The festival is always a must-attend event, but this year especially. Registration is now open, by the way.

  1. Had a sneak peek behind the scenes yesterday at their new facility. The reading room and offices will open next week, but the exhibit galleries won’t open until the Festival occurs in November. The space is large and beautiful — the gallery rooms (three of them!) alone are gorgeous. For those of us who remember when the entire operation was located in two classrooms in the old journalism building (Hi Paul!) the new building is simply spectacular.

  2. This festival and its facilities have come a long, long way since Frank Pauer met at the very first one way back in the early ’80s when I was just a pup.

The OSU Festival is a “must see” for all professional cartoonists. You won’t see a greater number and variety of cartoonists anywhere, even at any ComiCon. The speakers and panel discussions are top-notch. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Kudos to retired Cartoon Research Library head honcho Lucy Caswell, current director Jenny Robb, and their great staff.

Can’t wait to see the new facilities!
