J.D. Crowe shifts from staff cartoonist to chain cartoonist

J.D. Crowe, the editorial cartoonist for the Mobile Press-Register (AL), has a new job. Yesterday the The Birmingham News, Mobile Press-Register, The Huntsville Times, The Mississippi Press dropped to a three times a week printing schedule. Luckily J.D. will be able to continue drawing political cartoons, but his scope has changed a bit as he is now the cartoonist for the newspaper chain instead of just the Mobile-Register.

From his blog:

I’ll continue to cover my home turf at the Press-Register in Lower Alabama and the Gulf Coast. But I’ll also keep an eye on Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa and Auburn. Football is a state issue, right? Roll Eagle Roll.

Mississippi and New Orleans are also in da house. We’re neighbors and Saints fans down here. Especially when there’s a hurricane, an oil spill, a Super Bowl or a scandal.

Sounds like a lot of work, unless you have a real job. I’m looking at you, U.S. military, small business owners, farmers, factory workers, teachers, moms, shrimpers, oystermen, NFL referees and apologists for state legislators.

  1. J.D. is super talented, and I’m glad to hear he’s surviving his company’s harsh cuts. Drawing for the chain is a good opportunity… it’s not unlike David Horsey switching to draw for Hearst newspapers when his Seattle Post-Intelligencer was about to stop printing.
