  1. I would like very much to know the judging criteria for this award. I can’t for the life of me figure it out. I looked back over the last 5-6 years worth of winners and honestly, the only common denominator I saw was a distinct lean to the left and a noticeable lack of anything that could be construed as ‘award-winning’ caliber toonage.
I always thought that a good, ‘well-executed’ editorial cartoon was adept at making a point and occasionally being entertaining or funny. That’s what I strive for with mine.
I will state for the record that I DO have a case of sour grapes. I have entered this contest the last two years and not placed in the top 3. Again, I’m dumbfounded. Even the toons that I consider to be among my least ‘well-executed’ were still far and away better than the majority of what I’ve seen awarded. I DID NOT enter my least well-executed toons, though. I brought it. Which brings me back to my original inquiry. If anyone knows of or can tell me the judging criteria, I’d love to know. It is NOT what they printed in the rules….obviously. I am not an egomaniacal inkslinger. I can take losing when I am truly beaten by a better toonist. Seriously…..come on…..there is no way some of the CRAPPATOCIOUS drivel that has won over the last 5-6 years should’ve been even given a 2nd look……
