  1. Alan, an important distinction is that the Ignatz is meant for small press and creator-owned projects, which I assume explains the absence of Asterios Polyp, Drifting Life, Stitches, et al. I don’t know how they define “small press” or decide that a company like Fantagraphics is one.

    In any case, it’s interesting how little overlap there is between these nominees and the Eisner and Harvey lists. I think that speaks well of how much good work exists at all scales of publishing–comics are a “target-rich” environment these days.

    Oliver’s question about online comics is interesting because it’s the one category in which I’d assume the Ignatz, Eisner and Harvey awards are drawing from the same pool (nothing is more “small press” or creator-owned than a webcomic) and yet there’s still a lot of variation. Except for Callahan, I’m not familiar with these nominees either, but will check them out. Which is probably the point.
