Brenda Starr turns 70 tomorrow

According to the Gaylord Herald Times, Brenda Starr turns 70 tomorrow. The comic was created by Dalia Messick back in 1940. Today the feature is written by Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich and drawn by June Brigman.

June is quoted in the Herald Times:

“It’s been a great honor to draw Brenda and become a part of comic strip history,” says Brigman who grew up reading Brenda in the Atlanta Journal. “I was very lucky to be teamed with Mary Schmich. Working with her has made my job as artist incredibly easy.”

  1. Happy 70th., Brenda, glad the Chicago Tribune still carries your comic strip.

  2. Brenda Starr and Dick Tracy are the only Tribune oldies that the Chicago Trib still carries. They did away with other strips like Annie, Gasoline Alley and Winnie Winkle in the past.
