Kelley and Parker debut ‘Dustin’ today

Editorial cartoonists Steve Kelley and Jeff Parker are launching a new strip today through King Features Syndicate. The comic strip entitled Dustin, features a “‘boomerang kid,’ an adult who finds himself unemployed and back at home with his parents.” In an article in The Times-Picayune where Steve works as the staff cartoonists, Steve says the launch garnered about 50 papers.

USA Today and the Wisconsin State Journal also have stories on the new strip as well as sample strips.

  1. As someone who’s had the opportunity to see a month’s worth of this strip, I’d willing to bet the combination of Steve’s writing and Jeff ‘s art will very likely make “Dustin” popular, fast.

  2. The timeliness of the strip’s premise is interesting. In the ’90s syndicates looked hard for an office-oriented ‘toon (i.e., Dilbert). Keeping up with the times, they now launch a ‘toon about an unemployed adult. The times, they are a-changing. Best of luck!
