Jules Feiffer, daughter team up on book about First Dog

Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Jules Feiffer has illustrated a children’s book written by his daughter, Kate, about the struggle to choose the new puppy President Obama had promised his daughters, Sasha and Malia.

â??It was as much as, if not more fun than any other illustration job Iâ??ve ever had,â? he said.

  1. I forgot to add a 😉

Jules, apparently, got 14 days to illustrate that book.
It’s a book that needs to get out the door fast because of its subject AND there’s a boatload of picture books that are coming out (and in some cases, have ALREADY hit shelves) about the First Dog. Plus, in most cases it takes from 6 months to a year for the book to get printed and distributed to bookstores.

I think it’s a misconception that people have that children’s book illustrators get months and months to illustrate books. Sometimes, it’s just not so. The shortest deadline I ever had was one month to illustrate a book from beginning to end, that included sketches, revisions, and then on to final art.
