Guy Gilchrist ends Night Flights

Guy Gilchrist has announced that he’s ending his Sunday feature Night Lights and Fairy Flights as of September 6th citing dwindling sales. Guy says that making this decision was an emotional one.

From his Facebook page he writes – reprinted here by permission,

This is an emotional ending for me. I’ve been drawing it, writing it, and selling and distributing the feature for over 11 years. At the height of it’s popularity, we had 100 papers, and dozens of websites running it. We got down to less than 10 in this country in the past couple months, with paper after paper either closing their doors, cutting back, or cutting out comics and features altogether.

I was told that an Illustrated Poetry feature wouldn’t sell, and it did sell. I sold it myself to great editors who became friends. They believed that this was unique, and special. Then, it was the readers who kept it going for over a decade. What a blessing it’s been. It’s like any dream you know? It’s much tougher, aggravating, magical and amazing than you ever could have imagined.

  1. what a crying shame. you really don’t see this type of comic anywhere else nowadays. thanks guy.

  2. Phil is correct. You don’t see alot of work at Guy’s level of consistent beauty and writing. You can always tell just by looking at his panels it’s a labor of love.

  3. Congratulations, Guy, on a successful run! You did beautiful work with Night LIghts and I enjoyed seeing it in the Hartford Courant week after week.

On a side note, I encourage everyone to check out Guy’s music – he’s turning into quite the country star!
