Important updated information for Comic Seminar

With two months to go before the Comic Seminar in Las Vegas, there has been some updates to the event that are worth noting.

First, due to a new sponsor, the cost of the seminar has been reduced to $350 and that price is for everyone regardless of when they signed up. Secondly, the Monday-Tuesday session had only a few registrants, so it has been closed. Those attending the weekday session will be joining up with the weekend attendees. The weekend session is filling up quickly, be sure to register soon.

For those who aren’t familiar with the seminar, it’s a two day gathering of successful cartoonists who have managed to build an living income outside of syndication. This is an opportunity to get questions answered first-hand about web comics, print comics, syndication, licensing, self publishing, self-syndication. Presenters include:

  • Chad Carpenter and Bill Kellogg who are close to signing their 300th newspaper without going through a syndicate
  • Amy Lago, comic editor for the Washington Post Writers Group. If you want to go through syndication, she’s one of the finest editors in the business
  • Andrew Feinstein self-syndicated Girls & Sports to over 300 newspapers before signing with Creators
  • Daryl Cagle is the editorial cartoonist for MSNBC and built Cagle Cartoons a leading syndicate for editorial cartoonists and columnists
  • Mark Anderson quit his day-job to pursue cartooning full-time. His cartoons have appeared in Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, Reader’s Digest, Good Housekeeping and more. His corporate clients include Microsoft, GE, GM, TIAA-CREF, Walgreens and others. He also has built up one of the more impressive online direct-to-public comic libraries at andertoons.com
  • Howard Tayler quit a six-figure job with Novel to pursue full-time cartooning. His webcomic “Schlock Mercenary” has a loyal following that gives him a generous full-time salary. He’s an advocate and poster-child for the Free Content business model.
  • Cam Millward started a newspaper pagination service in 1998 that has become a leader in newspaper pagination. He’ll talk about the behind-the-scenes look at what happens to your comic strip once it arrives at the pre-press departments and newsrooms, and his unique knowledge of the ‘final product’ will be enlightening for all cartoonists.
  • Keith Knight is the Harvey award-winning creator of three comic strips; the self-syndicated multi-panel/autobio strip The K Chronicles, a political single panel called (th)ink, and The Knight Life, a daily strip syndicated internationally through United Features Syndicate. He is also a frequent contributor to MAD Magazine.

Also attending to cover the event include myself and John Read of Stay Tooned! magazine.

  1. I’m definitely going to be there along with my business partner! If you’re a Cartoonist serious about Self-Syndication, then this is your best oppotunity to learn from those in the industry who are doing it right now. You’re not going to get theoretical advice, but real tangible information and strategies you can implement immediately. Chad Carpenter & Bill Kellogg of Tundra Comics have put together a “Dream Team” of successful self-syndicated Cartoonists who have blazed a trail for us to follow. Plus, I look forward to networking with other aspiring Cartoonists while I’m there, so let’s get the word out! I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford NOT to go. See you there! :O)

  2. I would absolutely love to be able to go, but for me the timing is really bad. Hope you guys have a blast and fill the rest of us in on what we all wish we could have seen.
