News Briefs for February 11, 2009

» The Examiner’s Nate Beeler was honored last night for having won the 2008 Clifford K. Berryman and James T. Berryman Award for Editorial Cartooning.

» This is unverified, but an individual has posted in the Google RACS group that the Corpus Christi Caller-Times has cut their comics pages today from three to two. The unlucky strips include: Pajama Diaries, Retail, Frazz, Rudy Park, Jumpstart, Wizard of ID, Over The Hedge, Condorito, Rhymes with Orange, Mutts, and Family Tree. Can confirm this?

» While we’re posting unconfirmed notices, I hear that Daddy’s Home has picked up several papers this last week including: Arizona Republic, Toronto Sun, Edmonton Sun, Ottawa Sun, Calgary Sun, Winnipeg Sun. Interesting that in won week, just about any paper with the word “sun” in it picked up the strip.

» Cheboygan Daily Tribune has run a poll to find out what were the top three comics in their paper. The winners: Crankshaft, Arlo and Janis and For Better or For Worse.

  1. “Interesting that in one week, just about any paper with the word ?sun? in it picked up the strip.”

Sun Media has a common comics page for their six large papers. The 6th paper is the London Free Press in Ontario so they likely got in that one as well.
