2 Halloween cartoon round-ups being posted

Clay Jones, editorial cartoonist for the Free Lance-Star, is putting together what he is calling the “Great Halloween Theme Editorial Cartoon Research Project.” For the last couple of weeks he’s been rounding up all the editorial cartoons over on the AAEC web site that are Halloweened themed. His list is now up to 63 cartoons. His list is scattered throughout his blog. He tells me he’ll post the full list after Halloween. Be watching.

The other Halloween round-up is happening over on the Chewing Pencils blog. This project allows anyone doing a halloween themed comic to link back to his blog. The submission deadline is today and entries are judged with a prize being awarded. Here are the official rules:

1. Draw any amount of cartoons related to Halloween in any way (please keep them family-friendly, at least for this project).

2. Post them on your blog/site, along with a link back to this post. If you’d like, you can also link to some of the other participants’ entries, so that they all get exposure.

3. Send an e-mail to Greg [at] EEight.com with the subject line “Halloween Group Drawing Project,” and a link to your submission as well as your name. If you don’t have a website but would still like to participate, just send me the cartoon as an attachment and I’ll host it on my own website for you.

So far there are only 28 entries.

  1. Yup. The annual parade of holiday analogies. That’s what I call the October through December editorial cartooning season. Whenever I get stuck for a cartoon idea this time of year, I reach into the old sack of holiday scenes and pull out a trick-or-treater, or a turkey or the Right Jolly Old Elf himself. Also the New Year Baby gets hoisted out a time or two and spanked to life. That way I get finished up early enough to spend some time browsing the latest on-line theories as to why newspaper editorial cartooning (that’s my field) is becoming extinct. Hey! Holiday analogy: Cartoonist trick-or-treats at mainstream media’s house and gets a pink slip instead of candy!

  2. Well, grrrr, I don’t believe in Halloween, it’s evil, RAAAHHH so I’m going to *grumble* *grumble* *grumble*…

    …Just kidding!

Thanks for the heads up, Alan! My Monday, Oct. 29th comic was Halloween based, so I’ll have to send it in to that second one
