AAEC presidential campaign exhibit gets refocused

AAEC President Rob Rogers has scrapped the presidential campaign exhibit idea for this year’s 50th anniversary of the AAEC during their Washington D.C. convention. Instead, the exhibit will focus on the current presidential administration.

Like Bill Clinton, I may have tried to do too much in my first 100 days as president (Ok, to be honest it’s been more like 150 days … but that makes sense since I also took 5 years to finish college.) The “50 years of presidential campaigns cartoons” turned out to be too ambitious a project for our exhibit at American University. I could see it was going to be impossible to pull off (especially the older cartoons) and so I am changing direction. The new show will be easier to pull together because it involves only cartoons from the last 6 years. The title for the show is still being worked out. (title suggestions welcome — I have to choose one by Monday for the press release)

General Rules:

1. Each cartoonist may submit NO MORE THAN FIVE cartoons for this exhibit. The cartoons should be about George W. Bush and/or his cronies (Rove, Cheney, Rummy, Condi, Gonzales, Ashcroft, etc).

2. Send low-res scans of the cartoons via email to cartoonrob@gmail.com. Please send web versions only (AAEC web site size — 72 DPI, 600 pixels wide — is a good guide) NO FULL SIZE SCANS!!!!

3. Try your best to submit cartoons that you have ORIGINALS for. This is a museum exhibit and Katzen Arts Center has requested that we focus on original artwork. Naturally, we will make exceptions for those cartoonists who only work digitally.

4. All submissions must be received by April 13, 2007. Remember, don’t send any original artwork until you are asked for it. Right now we just want low-res copies.
