The Boondocks purge begins

With news last week that Aaron McGruder’s The Boondocks is on a permanent hiatus, it will be interesting to see how quickly the roughly 100 subscribing newspapers drop The Boondocks reruns and pick a new feature.  The American Statesman appears to be the first that I’ve found who has opted for Tony Carrillo’s F Minus.

Perhaps a question of greater interest is how many papers will replace The Boondocks with another strip that features predominately African-American or minority characters such as Candorville, or Watch Your Head.

  1. I emailed my newspaper, Stars & Stripes (the Pacific edition) about “Watch Your Head”. We’ll find out what happens in November.

  2. Dallas Morning News ran a few replacements for The Boondocks, replaced it this past week with Lio. Congrats, Mr. Tatulli (DMN also carries Heart of the City).

  3. The Washington Post has been running tryout strips for the whole term of the hiatus. I voted for Watch Your Head and gave it a plug on my completely un-influential blog.
