Rina Piccolo featured in ‘Inking Life: The Essential Cartoonist’ exhibit (UPDATE)

The work of Rina Piccolo creator of Tina’s Groove and one of the Six Chix will be on display in an exhibit called, “This Inking Life: The Essential Cartoonist.”  The exhibit opened Saturday the 12th of this month and runs through October 1. On September 13th Rina and other cartoonists will be on hand to talk about their art. This event is free to the public.

The exhibit is at the Great Neck Arts Center in Great Neck NY.
UPDATE: Mike Lynch writes in to mention that the “This Inking Life” is not an exclusive Rina exhibit, but features a wide range of cartoonists including Sy Barry (The Phantom), Mort Drucker (Mad Magazine), Hy Eisman (Popeye), Stan Goldberg (Archie), Bunny Hoest(TheLockhorns), Arnie Levin (The New Yorker), Mike Lynch (Wall Street Journal), and Don Orehek (Playboy) among others.

Additionally, there is another panel on the 16th of September featuring Mark Anderson (gag cartoons, greeting cards), Isabella Bannerman (“Six Chix,” Funny Times) Ray Billingsley (“Curtis“) and Jim Salicrup (“Spider-Man” editor, CEO Papercutz manga line).

Thanks Mike. More information can be had at the Art Knowledge News web site.

  1. Thanks for the coverage, Alan. The director tells me there are well over 100 original cartoon works, and the gallery walls are full!

    Some additional events:

There will be a “meet the cartoonists” reception at the Great Neck Arts Center beginning at 4pm this Sunday, August 20th. The GNAC is located within short walking distance of the LIRR Great Neck train station. Contact the gallery for travel information at 516-829-2570.

And I’ll be moderating 2 panels in September.

Mort Drucker (“Mad” magazine), Stan Goldberg (“Archie”) and Rina Piccolo (“Tina’s Groove,” and “Six Chix”) are the featured speakers scheduled for the Wednesday, September 13th panel at the Great Neck Arts Center. The event begins at 6:30pm.

Saturday, September 16th there will be a panel beginning at 7pm. 3 cartoonists and an editor are scheduled to appear: Mark Anderson (gag cartoons, greeting cards), Isabella Bannerman (“Six Chix,” Funny Times) Ray Billingsley (“Curtis”) and Jim Salicrup (former “Spider-Man” editor, CEO Papercutz manga line). Mort Walker (“Beetle Bailey”) is also schedueld to appear this night.
