Garry Trudeau honored with Lifetime Acheivement Award

Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau is being honored by Georgetown University’s Institute for the Study of Diplomacy for international political commentary.

Political cartoonist Garry Trudeau first launched the comic strip?Doonesbury? in 1970. It now appears in nearly 1400 daily and Sunday newspapers in the U.S. and abroad. His recent focus on injured veterans from the Iraq War has touched a national chord. In 1975, Trudeau became the first comic strip artist ever to be awarded a Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning. Trudeau has been inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has contributed articles to publications such as Harper’s, Rolling Stone, The New Republic, The New Yorker and The Washington Post. For five years he was an occasional columnist for the New York Times op-ed page, and is currently a contributing essayist for Time magazine.

Along with Garry, CNN Chief International Correspondent Christiane Amanpour will also be receiving the Lifetime Acheivement award for international reporting.
