Journal Sentinel Adds Dogs of C-Kennel

There are some new dogs in town — well, new in the Journal Sentinel Sunday Comics section, anyway.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has added The Dogs of C-Kennel to its Sunday Funnies.

Will, Kenny, Cocoa, Tucker and Iggy are the “Dogs of C-Kennel,” which makes its Milwaukee debut in this Sunday’s Comics section.

Begun in 2009, “Dogs of C-Kennel” chronicles the misadventures of a pack of oddball dogs and other creatures living in an animal shelter that looks a lot like a jail.

“Dogs of C-Kennel” is written by Mick and Mason Mastroianni. The two brothers were born into the business; their grandfather, Johnny Hart, created the long-running strips “B.C.” and “The Wizard of Id.”

When Hart died in 2007, Mick and Mason stepped in. Mason Mastroianni took over drawing “B.C” in 2010 and “Wizard of Id” in 2015, and Mick is writing “Wizard of Id” and co-writing “B.C” with Hart’s daughter, Perri Hart.

“Dogs of C-Kennel” takes the place of “Dog Eat Doug” in the Sunday Comics.

While on the subject of Dogs of C-Kennel let’s note that they changed the lettering style last month.
