Kevin Necessary – New Cincinnati Enquirer Editorial Cartoonist

The Cincinnati Enquirer has hired Kevin Necessary as political cartoonist and illustrator.

From The Enquirer:

Kevin Necessary is an illustrator and editorial cartoonist. His editorial cartoons will appear Sundays in The Enquirer and online each Friday.

Kevin explains his job to fellow Cincinnatians in words and pictures:

Who is Kevin?

I am a comics journalist and editorial cartoonist for WCPO/9 On Your Side in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a syndicated editorial cartoonist through GoComics.com. I’m also the illustrator of a children’s book, My Best Friend Fiona, written by Lucy May. I like space things, bad jokes, and drawing. I live with my wife, Julie, cats Huckleberry, Grayson and Bonnie and would very much like to be your friend (and illustrator).

Who Kevin is not? That would be Jim Borgman,
as Kevin introduces himself to Enquirer readers:

I was a lucky kid. I grew up in Cincinnati, which means I grew up reading Jim Borgman’s editorial cartoons in The Enquirer.

Jim was the editorial cartoonist at The Enquirer for 32 years, from 1976 to 2008. He won the Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning in 1991. His cartoons were a ubiquitous part of Cincinnati’s landscape…

I’m not Jim. I can’t be. But like Jim, I’ll always try to draw cartoons that make you think, or give you a chuckle, or provide that reflection on Cincinnati.

Not to worry Kevin. Enquirer readers would be crazy not to like your work.
