Archie Comic Strip Returns to A Better Universe

Oct. 11 is National Coming Out Day, and to mark the occasion, Archie Comics is teaming with the It Gets Better Project for a new comic series illustrating the ideal of a world where LGBTQ+ youth are able to live free of prejudice or fear.

The last new syndicated Archie comic strip appeared September 11, 2011. That Sunday comic strip was by Dan Parent and featured Kevin Keller. Now Kevin Keller creator Dan Parent (with Bob Smith) returns with a special limited Archie series in the daily comic strip format.

The three-panel, newspaper strip-format A Better Universe features familiar Archie Comics characters, including Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica, in different scenarios where friends come out to them only to be treated with love and support. It was written and drawn by veteran creator Dan Parent.

The Hollywood Reporter has details,

while the It Gets Better site showcases the comic strips, with more information.

The comic series, #ABetterUniverse, demonstrates 5 different “coming out” scenarios in Riverdale where young people are doing the right thing by fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for LGBTQ+ youth. We hope this series inspires people to create the world or universe they want to live in.
