Sandra Bell-Lundy’s Between Friends! celebrates 20 years in syndication

Between Friends! creator Sandra Bell-Lundy is celebrating 20 years in syndication with a previous four self-syndicating her strip.

This month is the 20th anniversary of syndication for Between Friends! Actually, I’ve been creating my strip for 24 years. From 1990 to 1994, I self-syndicated my comic to a number of southern Ontario newspapers: The St. Catharines Standard, The Brantford Expositor and the Hamilton Spectator as well a few other weekly newspapers. But…in February of 1994, Between Friends was launched internationally in 31 newspapers by King Features. It now appears in nearly 175 newspapers worldwide.

It’s a little hard to believe I’ve been creating my comic for all that time. When I was first launched, my husband was in a panic. He kept asking me if I would be able to keep coming up with ideas indefinitely. I kept telling him not to worry. I’m not saying there haven’t been some frantic times when I wondered if I was done…if there just wasn’t anything else left for me to say…but taking a little time off to have some fun with family or friends always seemed to recharge my battery.

Congratulations, Sandra!

  1. Congratulations, Sandra!! One of the best strips by one of the nicest and most talented in the cartoonist profession! Salute!!

  2. Big congratulations!

Hopefully, a great excuse for Sandra, King Features, and/or Andrews McMeel to release a 20th Anniversary Between Friends extravagantly oversized book collection…..

  3. Thanks for posting my news, Alan! And thank you everyone for the kind words. @ Jeff…I look so young because that photo is 24 years old! lol @ Tom…hey…there’s an idea. 🙂

  4. Tom:

I think that’s a great idea to have Sandy be one of the presenters at the Reuben weekend. Her talk at last year’s Disney Toonfest in Missouri was outstanding. She touched on how her career got off the ground all those years ago and where she’s at now compared to “back in the day”. Great fodder for the Reuben weekend attendees.
