Family Circus statue proposed for Paradise Valley

Paradise Valley AZ wants to honor Family Circus creator Bil Keane with a sculpture of the Family Circus characters. Bill was a resident of the town for over 50 years.

Former Vice Mayor Mary Hamway is spearheading the project, which received backing on Thursday night from the Town Council.

“This doesn’t belong anywhere else but here in Paradise Valley,” she said. “He’s a town treasure, a state treasure and a national treasure.”

The town plans to bring a 9- by 7-foot bronze statue, named “Giddy-up Daddy,” to the Paradise Valley municipal complex, 6401 E. Lincoln Drive.

The statue was designed by Bill’s sons Glen and Jeff and the city would like to unveil it in November of 2013.
