Richard Thompson recovering from brain surgery

Cul de Sac creator Richard Thompson went under the knife last Friday to have a chip implanted in his brain to alleviate some of the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. Friend and fellow cartoonist Nick Galifianakis was there and fed fellow friend Mike Rhode updates on the progress and condition.

Below is a cartoon of Richard’s brain drawn by Richard while the surgeons were operating. The wording in the bottom right hand corner reads, “not to size scale”.

The operation appears to be successful – as in Richard got through it without complications and is recovering.

  1. It does say not to scale! The man is a legend. Please to feed that ego of his.
A big thanks to Nick and Mike in posting on the blog about RT!

  2. Wow! I had no idea you were going through this today! I was just getting ready to send you a long-winded, soppy, e-mail about how much I miss you!! I haven’t been able to read the “Style” section since you left!! Over the years, I’d glance through all the drivel just to get to my beloved “Cul De Sac”…it’s just not the same now…
Wishing you all the best, m’dear! You’re phenomenal!!! You’re even funny while undergoing a brain implant!! All the best to you and your family, Richard!!! I miss you so, so much!
I’ll be waiting to hear of your next endeavors, in the meantime, I’m stocking up on all your books and paraphernalia! I see a coffee mug coming my way! 🙂

  3. Well my stupid newspaper took you out but I can still read on line! *And* I am nagging them to put you back in. They used the space to enlarge the WordSleuth, for pity’s sake. People who need glasses to read the funny pages (and I am one) can just go put their glasses on!

Best wishes for strength and lots of oddball humor!
