Upcoming: Kenosha Cartoon Festival

We’re less than a week out before the start of the Kenosha Cartoon Festival being spearheaded by Anne Hambrock. The festival grew out of an inquiry about brining John Read’s “One Fine Sunday” exhibit to Carthage College and Anne opted to build a festival around the exhibit. Current featured cartoonists invited to speak include MAD Magazine cartoonist Tom Richmond, Anne’s husband and creator of The Brilliant Mind of Edison Lee John Hambrock, Between Friends creator Sandra Bell Lundy, Paul Gilligan, creator of Pooch Cafe, Scott Stantis, editorial Cartoonist for the Chicago Tribune, Michael Jantze creator of The Norm and head of Jantze Animation Studios and of course John Read the publisher of “Stay Tooned” magazine and the curator of “One Fine Sunday in the Funny Pages” exhibit.

Anne has been on the local radio discussing the upcoming event (click for direct mp3 download),

She’s soliciting donations to help with the expenses

And if you’re in the area, please check out the public events.

  1. Alan,

Thanks so much for the mention!

I have one correction, however. Michael Jantze had a health issue arise that prevented him from joining us for the festival. (It was debilitating but not life threatening and he is recovering)

Former Disney, Veggietales, Funnypages Productions animator and author Tom Bancroft graciously agreed to step in. A big thank you to him and also to John Read, without whose show “One Fine Sunday in the Funny Pages” I would never have had the idea for a festival in the first place.

  2. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: One of the not-so-secret necessities of being a successful cartoonist is having a spouse who loves and supports his/her dream of being a cartoonist. (And I don’t just mean a spouse with a good job and healthcare benefits.) John Hambrock has such a spouse in Anne, who may love cartooning as much as she loves John. She has almost single-handedly organized this first annual Kenosha Festival of Cartooning!

  3. Good luck with the festival, Anne! And, John … I have to say it again… ?One Fine Sunday in the Funny Pages? is the most fantastically awesomely loaded with coolness exhibit! What did I just say? Oh, you get the idea! We are so proud to be a part of it!
