Warren Beatty considering Dick Tracy sequel

Actor and director Warren Beatty has announced he’s working on a sequel for the Dick Tracy movie as well as a remastered Blu-Ray of the original Dick Tracy movie he directed and starred in back in the 1980’s.

Recently, Beatty won a legal battle with Tribune Media over the movie rights for the Dick Tracy character.

Regarding the new movie, he was tight lipped, but according to the Hero Complex blog on the LA Times site he offered the following:

Beatty spoke for nearly two hours on ?Dick Tracy,? describing his love for the story, his admiration for the actors and his mixed emotions about making movies. Here are a few highlights:

On the Chester Gould comic strip: ?It was the first comic strip I got involved with as a kid. You know, Dick Tracy was the first non-funny comic strip. ? People got shot, times were tough in the Depression, things had to be done, and he went and did them.?

  1. I”m a Dick Tracy fan and was all excited about the 1990 movie. Roger Ebert gave it four stars. I don’t think I could tell you a thing about it, especially since it’s one of the few movies I actually fell asleep in the theater while watching.

The only thing I do remember is that Jeffrey Katzenberg had high hopes for it, but it was The Little Mermaid that wound up being the big hit.

  2. Beatty’s 70-something years old now. He should cast somebody else and just direct the damn thing. Then he should call it a “reboot” instead of a sequel..they’ve already “rebooted” the Superman, Batman, Hulk and even the Spiderman franchises. And nobody in the target audience even knows who Warren Beatty is anymore.

  3. Longtime fan of Dick Tracy. Yes, Beatty’s too old. Need a young guy with a square jaw . . . the square jaw could be accomplished by the same make-up artist that did the mouth and cheeks of The Joker in one of the Batman movies on Jack Nicholson !
