Reminder: Festival of Cartoon Art is 1 month away

We’re about a month away from this year’s Festival of Cartoon Art. If you’ve been sitting on the fence whether to attend this year’s festival, you may want to make up your mind quickly. I’m told seats are going quickly. Registration ends October 12 or until all seats are sold.

This year’s Festival will be held on October 14-17 and will feature presentations by Steve Breen, Roz Chast, Tony Cochran, Jan Eliot, Matt Groening, Tom Gammill, Dave Kellett, Paul Levitz, Dan Piraro, Jen Sorensen, Art Spiegelman, James Sturm, and Gene Luen Yang. Also planned events include an academic conference, a tribute to Jay Kennedy, cartoon exhibitions, and special receptions. More information can be had at their website.

  1. I’ll be there, and (it was confirmed yesterday) so will the “One Fine Sunday in the Funny Pages” exhibit – next door to the Wexner Center in the OSU Student Union. The exhibit will be on campus beginning October 12th.

Several of the featured speakers have original strips in the show, and I imagine many of the attendees (who are syndicated) will, too.

  2. Ay, Oh, Way to GO, Ohio…
Sounds like a ton of fun!

Too far away from San Diego for me, though this year I’ll be attending the International Society of Caricature Artists (ISCA) Convention in Las Vegas, November 7-12.

Bill Plympton will be the Guest Speaker.

Hey, Alan – have you already covered this? I think I saw it, but I’m not sure.

  3. Richard Thompson and I are driving in together. Comic book scholars Craig Fischer and Charles Hatfield are meeting us there, as are librarians Martha Kennedy of the Library of Congress and Randy Scott of Michigan State University. Richard Thompson’s web designer Chris Sparks (shameless plug – a spark plug – hah!) is planning on being there too. He’s a sucker for buying original art so if your a cartoonist…
