  1. So why this lineup? Because they live in the area? Do they give to or volunteer at the museum? Did they once right a letter to Schulz? I would think a 60th anniversary celebration of Peanuts would include his still living contemporaries, animators for the TV specials, or family-friendly newspaper cartoonists…

  2. Jeff, I’m sure there will be other events marking the anniversary, this is just one of them.

Not sure, but I believe that most of the participants are past “cartoonists in residence” at the museum. The second Saturday of every month, the museum has someone come in for a few hours to draw and talk to people. It’s a nice, low-key thing. They get a wide range of creators, from small self publishers to big-time pros. Most live in the S.F. Bay Area. A couple are involved in museum or Schulz studio business in some way, but most aren’t (I’m not). Dan Piraro isn’t local, but he’s spoken at the museum before and drew a big crowd.

I think the Sketch-a-Thon will be a good time, and I’m looking forward to meeting some people. The museum is asking the participants to draw something to mark the anniverary. Should be fun.

  3. Jeannie is very supportive of cartoonists overall, and particularly cartoonists in the Bay Area, so it doesn’t surprise me at all that she would extent an invitation to any and all cartoonists to the event.

  4. Brian’s right–these are past Cartoonists-in-Residence from the Schulz Museum invited back for a large-scale version of that ongoing event. This isn’t the only 60th anniversary event, but it falls nicely under that umbrella.

I’ll be loitering there, too, so feel free to hit me up for a Pig-Pen or Olaf sketch if you see me.
