Art Clokey, Gumby creator, dies at age 88

Art Clokey, the creator “Gumby” died last Friday at the age of 88.

Clokey, 88, invented the whimsical green clay character Gumby in the early 1950s that debuted on the “The Howdy Doody Show” and went on to become the star of his own successful television show, “The Adventures of Gumby.”

Bendable creation Gumby and Pokey, his horse friend, became popular figures in the 1960s, and still remain favorites among many kids, adults and collectors around the world.

  1. i remember watching Gumby and Friends as a kid in the early 70s and it was great fun, not like the insulting cartoons on the tv today. thanks, Art, rest in peace

  2. Todd Flanders used to watch Davey and Goliath, until he decided a talking dog was blasphemous.

  3. I was looking to see if Art had any Sketches, paintings, or drawings of him and his characters. I, too, remember…what memories he left us all with. I would like to collect some if at all possible. RIP Art
