Donald Duck turns 75

June 9, 1934 Donald Duck made his debut with the line, “Who, me? Oh no. I’ve got a belly ache.” According to CBSNews.com, he has since had his own comic strip in 1938, 150 other cartoons and seven feature films. He won an Oscar in 1943 for his role in “Der Fuehrer’s Face.”

  1. Hey, that’s 15 years younger than GASOLINE ALLEY! And where can I see Donald Duck comics today? What newspapers? What shorts or feature films?

  2. the first DD can only be seen on dvd, how sad. He always managed to “quack” me up. Yes, I wanted to be the first to say it. Best foil/friend a mouse could ever have.

  3. Sorry for the huge link. The ”great one” on there was the second one from the top. The sunday strip.

  4. Joe,

Disney’s name was signed on the comics, but he definitely did not draw them. Carl Barks did the majority of the comics books, and Al Taliafarro did a lot of the newspaper comics. For years, people didn’t know who was drawing the excellent Donal Duck comics in Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories and referred to Barks as the “good duck artist”. The one you linked to is by Taliafarro.

Happy birthday Donald. My all time favorite cartoon character.
