Self-syndication seminar registration now open

The Tundra guys (Bill Kellogg and Chad Carpenter) have opened up registration for their self-syndication seminar that is scheduled for this September. The two 2-day seminar on how to self market and leverage the internet to make a greater income with comics is set for September 26-27 and 28-29 and will feature Bill and Chad, Washington Post Writers Group’s Amy Lago, Girls and Sports’s Andrew Feinstein, Andertoon’s Mark Anderson, Schlock Mercenary’s Howard Tayler and The Other Coast’s Adrian Raeside. Also there in reporting, advising capacities will be myself and Stay Tooned! publisher John Read. Should be a engaging and informative weekend. Visit the Tundra site for more information on topics and register.

  1. Maybe these guys can teach everyone at their seminar how to sandbag online comics’ polls to get their strip added at the expense of other non-tech savy creators. They seem to be experts at it.

  2. Fred, you say that like it’s a bad thing.

Being ‘tech savy’ is a requirement now.

  3. Wow Fred! Thatâ??s quite an accusation. While stuffing the online polls is a common practice, it is something we absolutely donâ??t do; ever. Most editors are smart enough to be able to figure out who is stuffing ballots too.

Tundra places high in a lot of polls because it is a good strip, but we donâ??t even come close to winning all of the polls we are in. And believe me, if we â??sandbagged the online comics polls,â?? we would.

  4. If you’re relying on polls and voting to move your strip forward, there’s something wrong with your strip. The work should speak for itself always.

  5. Maybe these guys can teach everyone at their seminar how to sandbag online comicsâ?? polls to get their strip added at the expense of other non-tech savy creators.

Unless you have evidence, that’s a pretty heavy accusation. Perhaps the advantage Tundra has is a full time marketing/sales guy that works year round to sell the strip. Contrast that to the syndicate model who give their new features a 3-6 month sales window before focusing on the next comic?

Maybe instead of throwing accusations, you come to the seminar and learn something new.
