AAEC will not cancel their summer convention

Several journalism associations have cancelled their annual conventions, but The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists President Ted Rall says that the AAEC will forge ahead with their plans to meet in Seattle despite the possible loss of the sponsoring paper, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

“There has never been a more important time to come together and discuss the economic, technological and demographic challenges confronting journalism,” says Ted. “This year’s event will be a serious, working convention.”

The convention will also feature the association’s second Cartoonapalooza, an event where tickets will be available to the public. Seattle residents will be invited to hear, meet and exchange ideas with the nation’s top cartoonists at the city’s historic Town Hall. “The public loves editorial cartoons and it loves newspapers,” said Ted. “We have to figure out how to re-monetize that relationship in the digital age.

The convention is scheduled to meet in Seattle July 1-4.

  1. Yes! Finally a news orginization is taking some true initiative in solving the journalism crisis. I’m positive that the coming storm can be averted if some creative people (like cartoonists) sit done down together and come up with a good game plan. Too many cartoonists have already lost their jobs, and I’d hate to see the same happen to even more.
