Aussie cartoonist Michael Atchison passes at 75

Australian cartoonist Michael Atchison has passed away at age 75 from a cancer he battled since 1994. He spent 40 years with the Advertiser as their cartoonist, he also taught art at Pembroke College. Earlier in his career he sold cartoons to magazines, illustrated books and produced a syndicated comic strip that ran in the U.S. and Britain caalled “Word for Word.” He was honored with the Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to the community as a political and social commentator through the print media in 2007 along with the coveted Jim Russell Award from the Australian Cartoonists Association.

He is survived by wife, two daughters and three grandchildren.
