Etta Hulme could use some well-wishing

etta-hulmeSaturday, I received word from editors at The Fort Worth Star-Telegram that Etta Hulme was “gravely ill.” Sunday the news came that she was improving and now I’m told she may be out of ICU as early as today. I don’t know the specifics of what sent her into the hospital.

If you’d like to send her a card, flowers, a get-well wish, please email me and I’ll send you the contact information. Those that may not know her personally, but admire her work/career can leave comments below. I’ll gather them up and mail them later tonight, tomorrow morning.

Please feel free to forward this blog post to those you think would want to know. I’d love to see an overwhelming response!

  1. Etta, you deserve some down time, but I hope you soon feel mean enough to get back to the work of makin’ politicians nervous again.

You represent all that is good about this business, Etta.
I am forever grateful to you.

    Best,
    JD

  2. “You represent all that is good about this business, Etta.”

I think that sums it up for everyone who knows Etta.

  3. Agreed.

A role model in a time when they’re harder to come by.

Our best wishes to you, Etta.

  4. Dear Etta,
I’m so sorry to hear that you are ill. My thoughts are with you.

Women cartoonists everywhere are in your debt, as a great talent and example for us all. You certainly inspired me along the way… get well soon!

  5. Etta is one of the class acts in editorial cartooning. Her laid back, down home personality belies the real junkyard dog-take no prisoners cartoonist she’s been for decades. She has been a role model for countless AAEC members over the many years I have belonged to the organization.

All of us hope you’re up and around soon, old friend, and back at the drawing board annoying those who deserve it so desperately.

  6. “Etta is one of the class acts in editorial cartooning. ”

Paul, you and I have known Etta for a long, long time. If I may, I’d like to make one small edit in your statement, one I think you’ll agree with… Etta is THE class act in editorial cartooning.

  7. Etta was one of the first cartoonists I met at my first cartooning convention. It was hard to miss her, she stood out like a sore thumb amongst a mass of male cartoonists.

As a kid, I sought out and studied her work every year when the Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year book came out and to this day, her linework makes me drool. Beautiful cartoons!

    You’re in our thoughts, Etta.
    Get well soon!

  8. My very warmest thoughts and thanks are with you as you rest and recover, Etta. You are a kind and generous person and a wonderful cartoonist to boot.

Not qualified, but enthusiastic. Willing to relocate at soon as she can walk again.

I thank everyone for their good wishes and kind thoughts.

    Regards, Etta

  10. Etta asked me to post the above comment – I’m responsible for the typo!

She’s getting better, and looking forward to getting back to work. Thanks for keeping her in your thoughts.

  11. Etta: The Dow went up today on news that you’re improving.
    PLEASE continue to get better!

Hope to see you in Seattle this summer.

Much love from my end of this little sisterhood,

  12. I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED ETTA’S OPINIONS ON HER CARTOONS. SHAME THAT SHE IS THE ONLY ONE ON YAHOO EDITORIAL CARTOONS. CAN’T BELIVE IN THIS DAY AND AGE THERE AREN’T ANY MORE WOMEN POLITICAL CARTOONEST.

  13. How are you Etta? We received your card in Dec. and wrote back but haven’t heard from you. We hold you in our thoughts and pray you are doing well. Love from your friends Dee and Jerry Fearing.
