Cartoonists covering the Obama Inauguration

Seattle Post-Intelligencer’s Dave Horsey is in D.C. for the Barack Obama Inauguration as is Rob Tornoe, a freelancer for Editor and Publisher.

Already in the area, look for cartoons by Matt Wuerker of Politico, Nate Beeler of the Washington Examiner, Bill Garner of The Washington Times and Tom Toles of the Washington Post.

Cul de Sac creator Richard Thompson does a weekly cartoon for the Style section of the Washington Post. Last Saturday’s cartoon was a preview of the Inaugural Parade.

There are several papers in the surrounding suburbs and cities. If you know of a cartoonist that will be on assignment to cover the inauguration, let me know and I’ll add them to the list with a link to their work.

UPDATE: Political cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz has an exhibit of his editorial cartoons featuring Barack Obama this week in D.C. I’m assuming he’ll be town for the event.

  1. “Isn?t this like sending the tv weather guy outside to do their report?”

You make an interesting point, Rich…but maybe this is something we editorial cartoonists should be doing more of. Millions of people know Willard Scott and could describe him succinctly and accurately. Too often, cartoonists are thought of as abstract…more often by their signature work, than as individuals ( or “celebrities”). Obviously, there have been exceptions; but those that were have undoubtedly gone on to have long and illustrious careers.

Maybe it’s not a bad idea?
