Dick Locher approaches 10,000 cartoon, retirement

Dick Locher has been the editorial cartoonist for the Chicago Tribune for 38 years and as he nears his 10,000 cartoon, he hints that it might be time to retire. In a story in the Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) he says that he’s looking forward to other things.

Locher. 79, also has drawn the syndicated “Dick Tracy” comic since 1983, and has written that strip since 2005. He has been an editorial cartoonist for the Chicago Tribune for 38 years.

“My 10,000th cartoon is close,” he said, hinting at retirement. “There are other hills to climb, and it’s been a great run. I’m looking forward to the retirement cake.”

Thirty of Dick’s cartoons will be on exhibit starting this Sunday at the Dubuque Museum of Art.
