Creators Syndicate buys Copley News Service

Creators Syndicate has announced that they have purchased Copley News Service. The deal goes into effect July 1. Regarding the sale, Creators President Richard S. Newcombe said, “Copley News Service provides a great product and has a base of loyal newspaper and Internet customers. This purchase opens new markets for Creators columnists and cartoonists. By acquiring Copley’s services, Creators will have an even stronger product.”

  1. Seeing that Copley never really had much success with comic strips, this merger won’t make that much different.

Really, the only hit Copley ever picked up was “Pooch Cafe,” and that didn’t become a success until after Gilligan switched to Universal Press.

They had better success with editorial cartoons, tho…

  2. I suppose that fewer competitors in the syndication of editorial cartoons is a good thing. Creators certainly has a lot of editorial cartoonists to juggle now.
