Toby, Robot Satan makes leaps into newspapers

Corey Pandolph writes in with exciting news. His new feature, Toby, Robot Satan, which debuted on GoComics just two weeks ago, will now run in New York City and Boston Metro papers starting March 10th. The print run will start at the beginning of the story.

Corey is the current cartoonist for The Elderberries comic strip.

  1. Yet another comic offering of rearranged vanity clip art and computer fonts (obviously the artist didn’t use his spellcheck in at least one strip I saw) But what I really want to know is: Why is the viking robot in the perpetually jutting his crotch in everyone’s face? Does he need a lube job?

  2. Sorry to burst your bubble, Rick, but I draw each strip individually with pen and ink.

The computer font is for the “robot voice” effect and TOBY’s jutting his crotch just for you.

  3. Congrats, Corey … It’s a far different spin from The Elderberries, so you probably don’t need to worry about bumping yourself outta any slots. Still, TOBY does have a eldery curve to his spine 🙂

Here’s to his satanic newsprint takeover!

(Can you say Satan in newspapers??)

Exactly what OTHER comic offerings are you referring to, Rick? List some examples deemed unworthy by The Great Stromoski.

  5. >>>List some examples deemed unworthy by The Great Stromoski.

    Oh brother………

    >>>The computer font is for the â??robot voiceâ? effect and TOBYâ??s jutting his crotch just for you.

This actually made me laugh out loud too…excellent comeback.

  6. >Oh brother

How typical of The Great Stromoski. Make a vague, put-down… then dismiss it with a brilliant “Oh brother”. What’s wrong, Rick? Can’t think of any comics? Or too chicken to make a list?

  7. Suddenly everyone wants to throw down like they’re “THE BAD CARTOONIST”. Not sure that’s a good thing.

First, congrats to anyone finding work w/ economically sound compensation. (that’s a big caveat) Years ago I / we did a similar “GARFIELD W/OUT GARFIELD” experiment w/ friends. It works more often than not, is a more dependable laugh and god bad or indifferent that’s the comics you get today. We didn’t know it but it was the forerunner of “alternative” comics. However, while I appreciate the newer, longer narrative “altie” offerings, too many remind me of Monty Python w/ out the Monty or the Python.

Note to Rick: lighten up on the younger guys. All their soccer games ended in ties and everyone got a trophy.

  8. I’d just like to defend Pab Sungenis (The New Adventures of Queen Victoria). Even though it’s clipart the writing is not stale and formulated. It’s good writing.
And Queen Victoria keeps her crotch out of everyone’s face.

  9. Corey

I apologize for the tone of my post regarding your strip. My clumsy attempt at humor came out unduly snarky and wasn’t what I was trying to express. Barkeater Lake was one of six strips I subscribed to when it ran through the United service and thought it was one of the better newer strips out there and was sorry to see it end.

Your retort was spot on and did make me laugh and I deserved it. Best of luck in everything you’re currently working on

  10. Ummmm…Wiley, I think you’re unintentionally implying something here that, knowing you, you don’t mean.

Do you know what “juice box” means in our base and too often obscene culture these days? Well, I suppose it’s at least nicer than “stink box.”

  11. “Do you know what â??juice boxâ?Âť means in our base and too often obscene culture these days? ”

No, I didn’t, Dawn. I don’t get out much. I was thinking more in terms of box wine.

  12. Well after this rather eventful topic thread, I have to say, I’ll never be able to look at TOBY the same way again! I still chuckle when I think about it.

  13. This isn’t Stromoski’s first clumsy attempt at humor.

Or the first time he’s ended up apologizing with his tail between his legs.

I’m not sure about the crotch thing. That might be a first for him.

  14. â??Now, who wants a juice box?â?
â??I was thinking more in terms of box wine.”

A nice box wine would be good right about now. Or, some canned Champagne. Mmm, end the day right.
