Shultz & the Gang have always been one my favorite strips. I remember I wrote to him when I was younger and he mailed me a copy of the The Peanuts Gang on green paper, before the days of Woodstock, Peppermint Patty, but it is just a copy he probably mailed to the fans. I still have the framed newsprint copy of when he passed away & Snoopy’s saluting, with Woodstock & other birds to a flag at half mast (pub. Chgo. Tribune Feb. 16th 2000). I really liked R. Crumbs stuff too. The Underground Comix, I remember The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers,
Mr. Earth – Keep on Truckin’, & Honeybunch Kaminsky. Good stuff indeed.

I had a professor in college who had an original Peanuts from 1952 hanging on his office wall. The first time I saw it, I said, “I’ll give you $150 for that.” He looked long and hard at the cartoon and then back at me and said, “Nah.”

$113,525. I really wish he had taken me up on the deal.

Not to mention the $101K-plus sales price fetched by the original R. Crumb art for Mr. Natural No. 1.

I don’t know which I’d rather own more, assuming I could ever afford that sort of do-re-mi.
