Chuck Asay to retire from The Gazette; cartoonist position closed

Clay Jones writes in to alert me that Chuck Asay, editorial cartoonist for the Colorado Springs daily is retiring after the paper announced that it was reducing its staff. Chuck has been cartooning in Colorado Springs for the last 28 years.

The Gazette’s editorial page editor gives Chuck a pretty good send off on their web site. While it’s not stated, I’m assuming that Chuck’s retirement and the paper’s staff reduction mean that the paper isn’t going to be keeping the editorial cartoonist position open.

That’s ashame. I’ve considered Chuck to be one of the better conservative cartoonists.

I’ll miss seeing your work, Chuck.

I won’t miss him. I find that I can even see his point of view only about half the time, and agree with him less than a tenth of that.
