Today marks the death of Thomas Nast 104 years ago

Today in cartoon history marks the death of Thomas Nast, who is best known for his cartoons regarding Boss Tweed and Tammany Hall. He is also credited for creating the images of the modern Santa Claus, the Democrat’s donkey, the GOP elephant, and Uncle Sam. He was born September 27, 1840 in Germany, came to the United States at age six and died December 7, 1902 in Ecuador.
