Hartford Courant posts comic survey

The Hartford Courant has posted a comic survey online that will run through today.  Up for election are Lio, On a Claire Day, F-minus, Brevity, and Silo Roberts.  Readers are asked to gauge each feature by indicating whether they: Love it, Like it, Neutral, or Hate it.

As of this morning the tallies were:
1. ‘Lio’ by Mark Tatulli
A. Love It (41%)
B. Like It (20%)
C. Neutral (23%)
D. Hate It (17%)

2. ‘On a Claire Day’ by Carla Ventresca and Henry Beckett
A. Love It (13%)
B. Like It (22%)
C. Neutral (23%)
D. Hate It (43%)

3. ‘F-Minus’ by Tony Carrillo
A. Love it (14%)
B. Like it (23%)
C. Neutral (24%)
D. Hate it (38%)

4. ‘Brevity’ by Guy & Rodd
A. Love it (16%)
B. Like It (19%)
C. Neutral (23%)
D. Hate it (42%)

5. ‘Silo Roberts’ by Rob Cabrera
A. Love it (2%)
B. Like it (7%)
C. Neutral (25%)
D. Hate it (67%)

The paper does mention that the survey is unscientific. I was able to vote a couple of times. It is my opinion that if one is going to post an online survey, one ought to take the basic steps of preventing multiple voting (or at least try).

  1. I can’t really get my head around statistics where four out of the five results do not add up to 100%. Must be flawed somewhere. ????. Anyway conratulations Mark, well deserved.

  3. In addition to preventing multiple votes, on-line polls should somehow at least try to limit voting to people who might conceivably purchase and read the paper, since they are most often talking about their own comics page and not a feature that appears on the web site. I like the convenience of on-line “voting” but these stupid polls are bad enough without bringing in the votes of fans from halfway around the world. If nothing else, announce it only in your print edition and have it on-line for a very limited time so that your readers will have a crack at being heard before the worldwide peanut gallery weighs in to skew the results.

  5. I am a daily reader of The Hartford Courant and have been for many years. The comics are one of my favorite sections of the paper. Therefore, I take great interest in your search to find a great replacement. I would like to suggest consideration of a strip that I began reading a month ago. It is ‘Overboard’ by Chip Dunham. I absolutely love this strip and believe other readers would also find it entertaining.
