Dean Young to open up sandwich franchise

Blondie” cartoonist Dean Young will be taking Dagwood’s sandwich penchant and turning it into a chain of sandwich shops according to the St. Petersburg Times.  There will be a press event on May 11 to make the plans public. The first shop is slated to open mid June in the Palm Harbor strip shopping center. According to the story, the stores will be small with $4-5 sandwiches dominating the menu.

i think it is a great idea for a sandwich shoppe.
what is the street address or strip shop name?

i am a retired culligan employee and remember when
CHIC YOUNG did a comic strip and used the name
culligan instead of mulligan in a dagwood golf
comic strip. this was many (40 or so) years ago.

    good luck vince

  3. I wanted to ask Mr. Dean Young a question. In THE ADVOCATE, Tuesday, September 18, 2006, Dagwood was working on The “Bilberry” Contract, which was driving him crazy. Was the acount named after a person, or was it the berry ? Bilberry is our family name and we were so excited about the comic strip. Please tell us why you used the name!!! Thanks!

  5. I was born on July 2, 1941 and a year later was nicknamed Cookie by my dad – from the Blondie comic strip naming their girl Cookie. I want to find a copy of the strip where Cookie was named; I understand it was the result of a national name the baby contest. My hope is to contact Dean Young to find that particular strip.
[I see Dean and I share the same birthday, July 2 – not the year].
Thank you so much, Cookie Johnson
