Lee Salem promoted to President of Universal Press Syndicate

An inside source at Universal Press Syndicate has alerted me that Lee Salem has been promoted to President of the syndicate. Lee has been the Executive Vice President and Editor for several years now. Robert Duffy the current/outgoing president is retiring. The official switch will become effective early this summer.

Congratulations to Lee!

Details will follow as I get them!

UPDATES: Editor and Publisher has a the story – though it looks much like a rewrite of the official press release from Universal Press.

  1. Does this mean there will be changes at Universal in regard to what kind of strips are choosen?

  3. I don’t think it will make any drastic change at Universal. When you look at the big feaures that Salem has been apart of: FoxTrot, The Boondocks, Calvin and Hobbes, Cathy, For Better or For Worse and even The Far Side – then you see a pattern of success that will probably continue as long as he’s apart of the organization.

  5. Wow. I think that Lee Nordling said, on Darrin Bell’s ‘Toontalk’, that Lee was going to ‘drop in’ on his proposed course. That would mean would-be comic strippers will hear wisdom directly from the UPS Pres’. Not bad.

Nice blog, it’s a real resource. Thank you for the mention.

    Best, Rod.
